"My game plan was to stay behind her the whole time," said Boissoneault, who's also 17 and in Grade 11. "I knew I had a pretty good kick."

"This feels good," Boissonneault added. "I wasn't expecting to win at all."

"I felt her (Boissonneault) for the whole race, but I wasn't quite sure how close she was until I saw her come up on my side right at the end," said Lobert, a 17 year old Grade 11 student, who won the 1,500m at last week's city meet.

"Considering the wind, I was happy with my time," Lobert said.

With a jump of 1.50 metres, Kate Trotter of White Pines won the high jump. Jenna Gallagher of St. Mary's placed second.

Asked how disappointed she was to come so close to victory yet place second, Lobert said she didn't feel that way at all.

And she credited her coach at both Korah and with the Sault Athletics Club, Cam Wilson, for much of her success.

In javelin, Sara Matthews of Notre Dame des Grands Lacs topped the field with a toss of 32.37 metres.

"It would have been nice to win, but I went as fast as I could and it wasn't quite enough," she said. "She (Boissonneault) ran a really good race and I'm happy for her."

Her time of 5:04.26 despite windy conditions nearly equalled the 5:03.98 she ran at the city meet.
